Tour Description
We depart from Villa Antofagasta via Route RP43 in our van.
Our initial stop is Paicuqui, an ideal location to pause and capture the stunning landscape with our cameras. Paicuqui, a town characterized by low vegetation and grasslands, features a viewpoint situated over 3,500 meters above sea level offering views of the city of Antofagasta de la Sierra.
We then proceed along the Trapiche River, where, if fortune smiles, we might spot vicuñas, llamas, partridges, trout, and parinas along the path.
Our subsequent destination is the Salar Hombre Muerto viewpoint. Positioned 4,000 meters above sea level, this expansive salt flat covers 588 square kilometers and is renowned for its lithium deposits. Its name originates from a tomb discovered at the dawn of the 20th century. From this vantage point, we can appreciate the vastness of the salt flat and gain insights from our guide about its ecological and economic significance.
During our return journey, we explore the Incahuasi mine, which comprises two sections that we will investigate. Rich in history, this site was once utilized by the Incas and later by the Jesuits, and it stands as one of the most well-preserved relics of the Hispano-Indigenous era in the Argentine Puna.
Before concluding our tour, we pause at the Laguna del Caro lookout point, a perfect location for a final photo opportunity.
Finally, we continue along Route RP43 until we return to Antofagasta.
