An expert guide will pick you up from your hotel to take you to the embarkation point of the lake you've selected.
El Nahuel Huapi is the largest lake within the National Park, from which it derives its name. Renowned for its vast size and depth, it features seven distinct arms, each with unique characteristics. The lake is home to large trout, primarily Rainbows and Browns, and in smaller numbers, the remarkable Fontinalis. Catching these large trout with a fly can be challenging, posing quite a test for anglers. We utilize a motorboat for fishing and exploring this magnificent lake through Fly, Spinning, or Trolling techniques.
The Lago Gutiérrez is situated 11 km from Bariloche city. This lake is an excellent choice for fishing on windy days due to its unique location and wind-protected bays. Surrounded by stunning landscapes, it offers excellent fishing opportunities for Rainbow, Brown, and Fontinalis trout.
The Lago Moreno is open for fishing year-round. Located 16 km from Bariloche's center, it provides superb Rainbow and Fontinalis trout fishing. The lake is a spectacular spot, with magnificent residences along its shores, set against the majestic backdrop of the Andes Mountains.
Upon reaching the lake embarkation point, your guide will explain the fishing techniques we recommend for the excursion:
- Fly Fishing: This involves casting flies—“dressed” hooks that mimic insects, small fish, shrimp, etc.—using a specially weighted line crafted for this purpose, employing a precise technique. This method certainly demands practice and dedication to master the casting. However, it is gaining popularity worldwide.
- Spinning: This technique involves casting and retrieving artificial lures like spoons, which imitate the movement of a small organism in the water, enticing the trout to strike if successfully deceived.
- Trolling: The Nahuel Huapi National Park boasts numerous idyllic lakes ideal for this fishing style. We tow artificial lures at a slow speed from the motorboat while enjoying breathtaking landscapes.
Following this, the excursion will commence, cruising on Lake Nahuel Huapi, Moreno, or Gutiérrez and fishing using your chosen technique.
You will continue to float and fish throughout the morning or afternoon, depending on your selection, at the finest spots the lakes offer.
Accompanied by your guide, you'll learn about the history of the San Carlos de Bariloche region and discover the best fishing options and fish species native to the area.
After a 12 km journey, your guide will escort you back to the lake's departure site, where vehicles will be waiting to return you to your hotel.
Fishing Season
The fishing season begins annually on November 1 and concludes on April 30 within the Nahuel Huapi National Park, Northern Patagonia. However, for off-season fishing, the Nahuel Huapi, Gutierrez, and Mascardi lakes are accessible during May and October. Lake Moreno allows fishing in all three modalities throughout the year, making it a winter fishing destination.
