The journey starts with a pick-up at 8:30 am from centrally located hotels in San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca.
We will then traverse Nacional N° 38 en route to the majestic Cuesta de El Portezuelo. On the way, there is a stop to admire the Monument to Felipe Varela, a homage to a significant historical figure of Catamarca, situated at the start of Provincial Route No. 1.
Continuing our exploration, we will encounter the Monument to the Aborigines and the “Plaza Yacumama” (Mother Water), which honor the original inhabitants of the land and serve as a reminder of our rich cultural heritage.
After approximately 18 kilometers from the city, the ascent of the Cuesta de Portezuelo begins. This 20 km winding road, with over 300 curves, offers breathtaking views of the lush green landscapes.
While traversing the Cuesta, we'll pause at its striking natural balcony, located at 1070 meters above sea level, to marvel at the "thousand shades of green" it presents. Following this, we will continue along the Old Route.
Afterward, the tour proceeds to Piedra Blanca, a village renowned for the Birthplace of the Esquiú family. This site has been recognized as a National Historic Monument since 1935, as it houses items such as the bed and armchair used by Fray M. Esquiú. You will have around 30 minutes to explore the interior with a local guide.
The journey then advances along Route No. 1 to the Las Pirquitas Dam, the largest reservoir in the province, distinctively constructed from various materials unlike other reservoirs. We will stop for about 20 minutes to soak in the stunning views offered by this location.
After a total of 4 hours, we will head back to the city center to drop you off at your downtown hotel.
