The Colorado Volcano is a prominent hill located near the town of San Martín de los Andes, offering a summit view that can be appreciated from numerous locations such as Catritre, the route of the 7 lakes, Quilaquina, Trompul, Lago Lolog, among others.
Our journey begins with picking up each participant from their accommodation for a transfer to the mountain's base, a drive that takes approximately 40 minutes.
Once we commence our hike, we will traverse expansive pampas leading us closer to the mountain's base. Following a stream, we'll enter an immense lenga forest with towering trees reaching up to 30 meters high, accompanied by Colihues canaverals. As we delve deeper into the area, we'll navigate a canyon that provides a steady, yet manageable ascent.
As we ascend, the vegetation becomes increasingly sparse, offering us enhanced views of the entire Lacar Basin, eventually giving way to shrubbery.
We'll pass numerous natural rock viewpoints before reaching the pre-summit, where the ground gradually turns a reddish hue as we approach the border. The rock texture resembles pumice stone, indicative of our proximity to the ancient volcanic cone area, characterized by solidified lava flows covering the summit.
The summit stands as the area's epicenter, providing an unobstructed 360-degree panorama. Here, you can witness Lacar Lake, the Chapelco mountain range, Cerro Abanico, the mountain range in its entirety, Cerro Sabana, Mallo, Lago, and Cerro Lolog, the iconic Lanín Volcano, along with countless other landmarks.
The tour concludes with passengers being returned to their respective hotels.
