Tour Description

The adventure kicks off with the pickup of travelers in El Peñón, a quaint strategic village nestled in the Catamarca Puna. We then journey to the town of Antofagasta de la Sierra, where the stunning Alumbrera-Antofagasta volcanoes await. The flatlands and the Cerro San Juan viewpoint provide panoramic views of the town and its surroundings, perfect for photography and reflection.

Our expedition continues towards the Paicuqui viewpoint and the Punilla River, where the landscape transforms with distinctive rock formations and a serene hidden lagoon. Our next stop is the Salar del Hombre Muerto, an expansive salt flat spanning 640 km² at an altitude of 4,000 meters. Here, besides its natural beauty, you'll witness turquoise lagoons alongside lithium and potassium mining activities. The site’s past is further enriched by the remnants of the ancient Incahuasi Mine, a place where archaeology and mining converge, featuring mineral tunnels, smelting furnaces, and a historical cemetery.

The return leg of the journey leads us back through Antofagasta de la Sierra to El Peñón, completing a 300 km journey in about 10 hours. This excursion seamlessly blends spectacular landscapes, history, and adventure in the Catamarcan Puna.
