Tour Description
We commence this excursion in the morning, around 7 am, departing from Tinogasta. Our journey will take us along the captivating National Route 60, which transforms into the renowned "Route of the Six Thousanders" as we pass through Fiambalá.
This segment guides us through a landscape of awe-inspiring elevations, flanked by some of the world's tallest volcanoes, many of which soar over 6,000 meters above sea level. Throughout the route, we will encounter the local wildlife, such as vicuñas, guanacos, condors, and suris, frequently spotted along the path; alongside native flora uniquely adapted to the extreme altitude, including tola and yareta, plants traditionally utilized by local communities for generations. This journey not only provides breathtaking vistas but also offers insights into the region's history and culture, from ancient civilizations that once thrived here to the current customs of its residents. While the Ruta de los Seismiles extends to Paso San Francisco, our adventure will include a 55-kilometer detour on a gravel road to reach the Balcón del Pissis, with an estimated arrival around 11:00 a.m. The initial stop will be at the Aparejos Lagoon, a summer haven for migrating flamingos. Our next destination is the Laguna Celeste, celebrated for its strikingly vibrant blue hue.
Ultimately, we will arrive at the Balcón del Monte Pissis, a natural viewpoint situated at 4,550 meters above sea level, offering a spectacular view of the Pissis Volcano, the fourth highest peak in the Americas and the tallest inactive volcano globally, standing at 6,792 meters.
The return journey follows the same route as the outbound trip. However, as the day progresses and the Sun shifts, the landscape transforms with new shades and colors. We will reach the hotels at approximately 2:00 PM.
For those seeking a more comprehensive experience, an additional tour of the entire Route of the Six Thousanders is available.
On the return trip, rather than retracing our steps through Fiambalá, we will continue along Route 60 to Paso San Francisco, skirting the magnificent hills of San Francisco, Tres Cruces, Los Patos, and Incahuasi. These hills, each exceeding 6,000 meters, are rich with endemic flora and fauna, stunning landscapes, and are of interest not only to tourists but also to geologists and local communities.
This segment leads us through the Quebrada de las Angosturas, an area of foothills known for its multicolored hills.
Ultimately, we will return you to your accommodation in Tinogasta.
