🚐 Transport from El Calafate and Arrival at the National Park
Between 7:30 and 8:45 a.m., we will collect you from your hotel in El Calafate to embark on an unforgettable journey to Los Glaciares National Park, situated 80 km away. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the most breathtaking locations in Argentine Patagonia.
After approximately an hour in a comfortable vehicle, we'll reach Puerto Bajo de las Sombras, where the water adventure commences.
🛳️ Scenic Boat Ride with Views of the Perito Moreno Glacier
We'll embark on a 20-minute cruise across the Rico Arm of Lake Argentino, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Perito Moreno Glacier — one of the few glaciers worldwide that continues to advance. This initial segment of the tour foreshadows the remarkable experiences ahead.
🥾 Start of the Minitrekking: Walking on Ice
Upon reaching the opposite shore —accessible exclusively through this excursion—, our certified bilingual mountain guides will welcome you and take you to a small shelter for a brief introductory session. You’ll then enjoy a picturesque walk along the lake's edge until arriving at the glacier.
Here, the guides will assist you in fitting crampons —metal devices that attach to your shoes— for safe ice walking. After a short technical briefing, the ice trek begins, lasting about two hours.
❄️ Sights During the Glacier Trek
During the trek, you will encounter:
- Distinctive blue-hued ice formations
- Small meltwater lagoons
- Crevasses, caves, and glacial streams
- Insights into the glacier’s geology, formation, and rupture phenomena
The terrain is uneven yet safe, and our guides always choose the best path, assisting anyone who requires help.
This experience is moderately physical, suitable for individuals in good general health and within the allowed age range.
📸 Photo Opportunities and Relaxation
We'll pause at strategic spots for photos — perfect for creating lasting memories or sharing on social media.
At the conclusion of the trek, we celebrate with a glass of whisky served with millennia-old ice taken directly from the glacier. A unique and memorable finale.
🧭 Perito Moreno Glacier Walkways
After returning to the shelter, we'll board the boat again, cross back to the port, and take a bus to the panoramic walkway area.
You'll have free time to:
- Dine at the park’s restaurant or enjoy a picnic (bringing a packed lunch, water, and wine is recommended)
- Walk along the various viewing balconies — perfect for capturing the best photos from different angles
🚐 Return to El Calafate
Concluding the visit, we return you to your hotel in El Calafate — the perfect conclusion to an unforgettable Patagonian adventure.
