Descripción del Tour:
10:30 am: We will gather at the Tangol Office in the San Telmo neighborhood to head towards the San Pedro Telmo Antiques Fair. This renowned fair has been a Sunday staple at Plaza Dorrego and Defensa Street since 1970, where the streets are transformed into a pedestrian haven for this large event. Attracting over 10,000 visitors, many of whom are tourists, the fair features 270 sales positions offering a variety of items from furniture to regional crafts, antiques, clothing, and leather goods. Visitors can enjoy tango orchestras with dancers, living statues, and other street performances. The combination of antiques and the rich cultural ambiance makes this fair a must-visit.
We will also explore the San Telmo Market, perfect for purchasing souvenirs as it offers original and unique products.
12:30 pm: After immersing ourselves in the charm of the San Telmo Fair, we'll head southwest from Buenos Aires city center to the renowned Mataderos Fair. Established 30 years ago, this fair is a true celebration of "Gaucha Culture" and features three areas plus a food court: Traditional Crafts, Artistic Festival, and Gaucho Skills. Various activities such as workshops, talks, and exhibitions are available.
More than 300 stalls are operated by artisans selling folk products and traditional items like mates, llama or alpaca ponchos, blankets, and leather and silver crafts.
We will have some free time to visit the "Criollo Museum of the Corrales". This museum offers insights into the lives of gauchos in the pampas, showcasing their clothing, tools, and everyday objects. It also illustrates how Argentina evolved into a world leader in the meat industry. Visitors can view weapons, knives, carriages, animals, and rural paintings. (This activity is optional, and the museum admission is not included in the tour price.)
Upon arriving at the fair, you'll notice numerous grills where cooks prepare delicious meats and other typical dishes. It's a perfect time to enjoy a lunch of tasty empanadas with a beverage included in the tour.
Let's continue exploring the craft stands, featuring accessories, everyday objects, and musical instruments. Both products and regional foods (like jams, liqueurs, alfajores, and cheeses) are available at more affordable prices compared to other parts of Buenos Aires.
The gastronomy and crafts of the Mataderos Fair are beautifully complemented by the music and folkloric dances, as the fair is also known for its art festivals and demonstrations of gaucho skills. On special occasions, you might see horse races or even participate in tango lessons!
