At 8:30 a.m., a specially equipped shuttle departs from Ushuaia, conveniently picking up passengers directly from their hotels. During the journey to Tierra Mayor Valley, a knowledgeable guide accompanies the group, providing an overview of the day's experiences, the significance of the location, and essential safety guidelines. This approximately 30-minute drive traverses a picturesque landscape of snowy forests and Andean mountains.
Upon arriving at the park, local staff warmly welcome the group at a base of operations designed with a polar theme. Here, a welcoming introduction is provided along with the necessary gear, including thermal suits, gloves, and boots if needed. Visitors then head to the exhibition area.
The group embarks on a guided tour of the “Antarctic Explorers” exhibition, housed within an interactive dome. Through panels, historical artifacts, and immersive projections, the stories of legendary figures like Ernest Shackleton and Roald Amundsen are brought to life, highlighting the physical and mental challenges they faced and their contributions to our understanding of Antarctica.
Following the tour, visitors receive technical instructions on operating the snowmobiles. Each participant has the option to drive their own snowmobile or share one if they prefer.
The group sets off on a 6-kilometer trek across the valley's frozen expanse, winding through snowy forests, frozen rivers, and landscapes reminiscent of the vast Antarctic plains. Along the way, brief stops allow for photography, environmental appreciation, and learning about the local ecosystem.
After the snowmobile adventure, visitors board an authentic tracked vehicle, akin to those used at Antarctic research stations. This vehicle facilitates exploration of more remote park areas. During the 4-kilometer journey, the guide simulates a scientific expedition, demonstrating how equipment and supplies are managed under extreme conditions, while navigating challenging terrains similar to glaciers or uneven surfaces.
Upon reaching the ANTARCTIC MINIBASE, a faithful replica of a scientific outpost, visitors explore living quarters, research labs, and storage facilities.
Interactive experiences simulate scientific research on the continent, such as glacier measurements and meteorological analysis. The impact of climate change on polar regions is also discussed, featuring projections and real scientists' testimonies.
At the base, guests enjoy a themed snack, including hot beverages like chocolate, infusions, coffee, and energy-rich foods similar to those consumed by explorers: bars, nuts, and hot soups. The cozy setting, adorned with maps, photographs, and stories, provides the perfect backdrop for sharing experiences.
After the snack, passengers board the shuttle for the ride back to Ushuaia. This return journey offers a chance to unwind, exchange stories, and take in the snowy scenery one last time.
The tour concludes around 1:30 PM, with guests being dropped off at their respective hotels.
