In the morning, an expert guide will collect you from your hotel for an excursion to Fonck Lake. Situated 65 km from Bariloche, this lake lies in the core of the National Park, surrounded by untouched and wild nature. Access to Fonck Lake is exclusively via four-wheel drive vehicles, making it the most secluded lake in the National Park. It is renowned for offering exceptional fishing opportunities for large brown, rainbow, and fontinalis trout.
Upon reaching the embarkation point, your guide will introduce the fishing techniques suggested for the trip:
- Fly Fishing: This method involves casting flies—hooks "dressed" to mimic insects, small fish, shrimp, and more—using a weighted line specifically crafted for this purpose. This technique requires precision and practice to master the casting. Fly fishing is gaining popularity worldwide.
- Spinning: This technique involves casting and retrieving artificial lures such as spoons, which mimic the motion of small organisms in the water, enticing the trout to strike. Spinning is permitted in all lakes and certain sections of some rivers, and can be performed from the shore or from boats, both rowed and motorized. We advise using ultra-light equipment and barbless hooks.
Afterward, you'll embark on Lake Fonck, fishing with your chosen method.
Following two hours of fishing from the boat, you'll arrive at the lakeside to savor a delicious lunch surrounded by nature. After a break, you'll continue floating and fishing in the afternoon at the lake's prime locations.
Accompanied by your guide at all times, you'll uncover the history of the San Carlos de Bariloche area and the optimal fishing options and fish species found in the region.
After covering 12 km throughout the day, your guide will lead you to the lake's exit point, where vehicles will be waiting to transport you back to your hotel.
Fishing Season
The fishing season within the Nahuel Huapi National Park, Northern Patagonia, begins annually on November 1 and concludes on April 30. However, for off-season fishing, Nahuel Huapi, Gutierrez, and Mascardi lakes remain open throughout May and October. Lake Moreno permits fishing in all three methods year-round, making it an ideal location for winter fishing.
