The Train to the Clouds (often referred to as the "Cloud Train") is a must-do experience on your visit to Salta. This train journey takes you through mountains at an impressive altitude of over 4200 meters above sea level. To assist you in planning your journey, we provide two types of excursions: one that combines a bus journey with the train ride, and another that solely includes the train excursion.
*BUS + TRAIN TO THE CLOUDS OPTION: The departure point will be at Antofagasta Square at 6.00am. Here, the check-in process for the trip will occur; ensure you have your identification and pre-purchased ticket ready.
The scheduled stops during the tour are as follows:
07.35am: Campo Quijano, located 30km from the capital. This stop offers a view of Salta's most iconic engineering marvel: the C-14 railway branch.
08.05am: Viaducto del Toro, situated on the namesake ravine.
09.25am: El Alfarcito, perched at 2,800 meters above sea level. This location is renowned for its vibrant tradition in local crafts. Enjoy a rustic breakfast and explore the craft fair. You will also have the opportunity to visit the Fundación del Padre Chifri, which supports resource acquisition and provides education and training to the local community.
This will be our final stop before reaching San Antonio de los Cobres.
11.40am: Assemble at the train station to board the iconic Train to the Clouds. The train journey commences at 12 noon.
1:00pm: Polvorilla Viaduct, showcasing the most famous view of this trip. It stands as the tallest structure of the C-14 railway branch, soaring over 4200 meters above sea level.
1:30pm: Begin the return journey to San Antonio de los Cobres, arriving at the station around 2.45pm, where you'll have two hours to explore and photograph the area.
4:30pm: The return journey commences. After an hour of travel, the final stop will be in the town of Santa Rosa de Tastil, home to one of the country's largest archaeological sites, once inhabited by approximately 3,000 people.
*TRAIN TO THE CLOUDS ONLY TICKET OPTION: This choice is ideal for those planning their own road trip; it allows you to enjoy the train experience without paying extra for a bus trip you won't use.
Meet us at the San Antonio de los Cobres Train Station to embark on the Train to the Clouds, which will transport you to the La Polvorilla Viaduct.
If you select this option, be sure to bring your identification and train ticket, and arrive at least 15 minutes before the train's departure.
