We begin our adventure departing from the city of San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca at approximately 7:30 in the morning. Our journey takes us along National Route 38, where we pass by the historic train stations of Miraflores, Huillapima, and Chumbicha.
As we continue, we venture into the stunning Quebrada de la Cébila. Our next destination is Aimogasta in the province of La Rioja. This charming mountainous town greets us with its breathtaking natural beauty, abundant vineyards, and extensive olive plantations. Just 4 kilometers away in Arauco, we encounter the remarkable 400-year-old olive tree, a testament to the origins of Argentine olive cultivation.
Leaving Cerro Negro behind, we arrive in London, a historic town recognized as the first city in Catamarca. With nearly 400 years of history, this location transports us back in time. From there, we proceed to the El Shincal Ruins, a significant archaeological site that harbors yet-to-be-discovered mysteries. A knowledgeable guide will highlight the importance of this vital reservoir of our indigenous heritage.
The journey then takes us to Belén, a charming town renowned for its exceptional quality crafts, particularly llama and vicuña textiles. We will visit local weavers' homes to observe the creation of these garments on traditional indigenous looms. We will pause to enjoy lunch (not included).
After our break, we explore the Quebrada de Belén, where nature has generously provided streams and willow groves. The flowing water contrasts beautifully with the vividly colored stones, crafting a picturesque landscape.
Continuing along our path, we reach the Puerta de San José, a quaint and picturesque town boasting an ideal microclimate for relaxation and enjoying the warm summer days.
