Tour Description

The excursion to the Campo de Piedra Pómez kicks off when we collect you from your accommodation in Fiambalá.
This journey is predominantly cross-country, enhancing the adventurous spirit of the trip. As we travel along the scenic, mountainous route, we will ford the river before arriving at the charming town of Las Papas.
Las Papas is a mountain village with a population of no more than 50, all descendants of the Diaguitas, the indigenous peoples of this region. We'll pause here to explore the town and stroll around. On our way to Campo de Piedra Pómez, we'll experience wading through the Papas River, crossing it over 80 times.
Following our stop, we will proceed for an additional 30 kilometers. En route, we will pass by the Los Baños Hot Springs and the Los Hornos Hot Springs. Depending on road conditions, we may make a stop.
Further along, we will encounter Lagunilla, known locally as the Alumbrera Lagoon, and traverse sandbanks leading to the entrance of the San Buenaventura mountain range.
The effort of traveling nearly 4km uphill on sand will be worthwhile when we finally arrive at the breathtaking Campo de Piedra Pómez, where we can marvel at the unique geological formations and soak in the natural beauty of the area.
After spending approximately an hour and a half observing, exploring, and capturing photos of this spectacular site, we will commence our return journey to the town of Fiambalá.
