Frequently Asked Questions

This tour package to El Calafate typically includes accommodation with breakfast, airport transfers, and an excursion to the Perito Moreno Glacier with walkways and a professional guide. Depending on the agency and season, optional services such as a Nautical Safari, All Glaciers, or Ice Rivers tour, mini-trekking on the glacier, and private transfers may be added. Entrance fees to Los Glaciares National Park, meals, and tips are generally not included. It is also possible to request additional nights, hotel upgrades, and 24-hour assistance. For an exact quote, please see the tour details and confirm what is included, what is optional, and what supplements apply.

The classic El Calafate itinerary is usually 3 days and 2 nights or 4 days and 3 nights, but can be adjusted depending on flights and availability. Day 1: Arrival in El Calafate, transfer to the hotel, and free time to explore the town center or visit the waterfront of Bahía Redonda. Day 2: Excursion to the Perito Moreno Glacier, panoramic walkways, and optional boat trip along the glacier's southern face. Day 3: Free time or an optional excursion to sail among icebergs or visit a Patagonian ranch, followed by departure. Times and the sequence of activities may vary; it is advisable to confirm pick-up times and the duration of each excursion.

The best time to visit El Calafate and the Perito Moreno Glacier is from October to April, with longer days, more frequent excursions, and milder weather. In summer, temperatures typically range from 5 to 18°C, with variable Patagonian winds; in winter, they can drop to -5°C, and while some services operate with limited capacity, there are fewer tourists and competitive prices. The weather changes quickly, so layered clothing and advance booking are recommended during peak season. The extended daylight hours allow visitors to take advantage of viewpoints and photograph landscapes, the blue ice, and the Patagonian steppes.

Visiting the Perito Moreno Glacier via the walkways is easy and suitable for families, seniors, and travelers with basic experience, as the trails have viewpoints and accessible sections. The mini-trekking or ice walk is optional, requires good physical condition, and often has age restrictions. For the trip, we recommend trekking or athletic shoes with good grip, a waterproof and windproof jacket, a fleece, a hat, gloves, sunglasses, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, and cash or a card for entrance fees and food. Also bring personal documents, travel insurance, and a camera for landscape photography.

The price of a package to El Calafate varies depending on the date, hotel category, type of transfer, and excursions booked. It typically does not include entrance fees to Los Glaciares National Park, meals other than breakfast, gratuities, travel insurance, or optional services such as boat trips or mini-trekking. Change and cancellation policies depend on the rate and season; penalties may apply for no-shows or cancellations close to departure. We recommend purchasing travel insurance with medical and weather coverage and reviewing rescheduling conditions due to Patagonian weather conditions.
