Tour Description

Tolar Grande is a high-altitude town located in the Puna of Salta, standing at 3,400 meters above sea level. Situated 357 km from the city of Salta, reaching this destination means traveling through towns and sites rich in cultural, geological, and scenic beauty. Embark on this adventure with us!

Day 1: The journey kicks off from the city of Salta at 7:30 am, heading towards Tolar Grande. Our first stop is the Quebrada del Toro, a route famously traveled by the Train to the Clouds. As we traverse through the Quebrada, we will explore the town of Santa Rosa de Tastil, arriving at San Antonio de los Cobres by noon for lunch.

At 2:00 p.m., our journey continues to Tolar Grande, passing through the Abra de Alto Chorrillo, which is the highest point on our tour at 4,560 meters above sea level. We then descend a thousand meters to continue our adventure amid the Puna of Salta, surrounded by salt flats and volcanoes, leading us to the highlight of the first day, the Devil's Desert. Here, we'll embark on a walk amidst mountains and light displays created by the sun's projection at our arrival time. After soaking in this breathtaking landscape, we'll proceed to Tolar Grande, enjoy dinner in a local dining hall, and settle in for the night.

Day 2: Our second day begins at 9:00 am with breakfast in another dining hall, offering a glimpse into the local culture. Accompanied by a local guide, we will visit Ojos del Mar and El Arenal, spending roughly two hours there. This stop is ideal for walking and capturing stunning photos from viewpoints overlooking the seven volcanoes of the Andes Mountains, including Socompa, Aracar, Guanaqueros, Pulares, Salin, Arizaro, and the renowned Llullaillaco volcano, known as the second highest active volcano in the world. Later, we will return to the town for lunch, freshen up, and stock up on water before heading to the Salar de Arizaro, recognized as the largest in Argentina and the third largest in America. This one-hour journey includes photo stops as we approach the Arite Cone, a unique volcanic formation within the Salar. After exploring the Cone and the Salar, we'll return to Tolar Grande at sunset for dinner and another overnight stay.

Day 3: At 8:30 am, we will depart Tolar, retracing our route back with technical and photographic stops in Pocitos and San Antonio de los Cobres, reaching the city of Salta by the afternoon.
