Fly Fishing Day

Fly Fishing Day

Duración: 9 Horas

Exploring Patagonia Argentina offers more than just breathtaking landscapes; it provides an opportunity to immerse yourself in the passions of the locals. One activity you absolutely must try in this southern region is the beloved tradition of fly fishing.
Setting out from El Calafate, you'll journey to some of the area's most bountiful fishing locations, including Lagos Roca, Argentino, and Rico, as well as the Santa Cruz and Pelque Rivers. Here, you'll experience this genuine and artisanal sport, which primarily employs the technique of wading.
Equipped with a rod and an artificial lure, known as a fly, and guided by seasoned experts, you'll have the chance to catch (and release) the region's abundant species, such as the Rainbow Trout, the Lago or Bocón Trout, the Fontinalis or Spring Trout, and the area's star, the Chinook Salmon, a prized trophy among Patagonian anglers.
You can opt for a full-day excursion with lunch included or a half-day trip with a snack.

Descripción del Tour:

Begin your adventure bright and early with a hotel pickup at 08:30 am. Accompanied by our expert guides, you'll set out to explore some of the most sought-after fishing environments. The specific location will be determined by weather conditions, ensuring a successful fishing experience. The possible destinations include:
* LAKE ARGENTINO: Known for its vast expanse along the shores of El Calafate, the prime fishing spot is Punta del Lago, a spacious bay home to Rainbow Trout and Lake Trout, the latter being a major attraction due to their impressive size. Despite the strong winds that often challenge fly fishing here, our guides are equipped to handle these conditions and ensure a rewarding outing. You'll use large, vibrant flies such as Woolly Bugger or Zonker in shades of purple or black, complemented by red and yellow, with rods ranging from 6 to 8.
* ROCA LAKE: This smaller lake boasts crystal-clear waters with a variety of fish sizes, predominantly Rainbow Trout, which are particularly notable in the summer for their size and agility. Ideal for using N° 6 rods with Wet Tip or fast sinking lines for deeper spots, the common flies include black Woolly Bugger, Zonker, and Matuka, in black, olive, brown, and nymph hues, with the Prince with a large head standing out.
* LAKE STROBEL: Although challenging to access, this lake offers immense satisfaction with a plentiful supply of Rainbow Trout, ranging from 3 to 7 kilograms each. This stunning location calls for heavy gear with 7 to 8 sinking lines and large, colorful flies.
* RÍO PELQUE: This clear-water river with a gentle slope is perfect for catching Brown and Fontinalis trout, ranging from 300 grams to 2 kilograms. The Río Pelque is ideal for light gear, using rods from 2 to 5 and black Woolly Bugger flies.
* RÍO SANTA CRUZ: As the most significant and powerful river in Santa Cruz, it offers excellent fishing in its upper sections due to the abundance of Canadian Trout and Smallmouth Perch. Near the river's mouth, sizable Steelheads are found, averaging between 3 and 6 kilograms. You'll need substantial equipment, including 8 or 9 rods with robust butts of at least 9 feet, and a reel with a reliable brake. Common flies are large, weighted streamers, with Rabbits, Wooly Bugger, and Zonker varieties in purple to black hues with hints of glitter.
This river remains largely unexplored, with only about a third of its course frequented by local anglers.
* RÍO CATERINA: Situated within the Lake Argentino basin, this river is a prime spot for Chinook Salmon fishing. These fish present a challenge as they cease feeding during their upstream spawning journey. However, our guides have perfected their behavior study, successfully catching several using traditional fly fishing methods. You'll use large, articulated flies in bright colors like fluorine green and orange, with rods 7 to 8, sinking lines, and a healthy dose of patience. Once a Salmon bites, prepare for a formidable battle due to their extraordinary strength; ensure you have ample backing and at least one tippet.
Throughout your fishing experience, regardless of the location, your guide will be at your service at all times. You'll receive an introductory briefing covering basic techniques and equipment usage, including fly assembly and rod selection. Depending on your expertise, the practice can be tailored to your skill level.
Fishing will be conducted wading, allowing you to traverse the river or lake banks. Our guides will provide the necessary gear for comfortable movement in the chilly waters, including waders and boots with non-slip felt soles, some of which feature studs for enhanced grip.
You can choose between a full-day excursion, lasting 10 hours, with a midday break for a delectable traditional lunch by the selected river or lake, or opt for a half-day session of 6 hours with a snack. For this option, you can select a morning departure at 08:30 am or an afternoon departure at 2:30 pm.
In Argentine Patagonia, fly fishing is strictly catch and release, allowing anglers to enjoy the sport while preserving the area's native species.
