Tour Description
Our adventure kicks off with a transfer from the hotels in El Calafate, beginning at 7:30 am and reaching our excursion's starting point by 9:30 am at the deserted rest stop on Route N° 40 Luz Divina- km 663. Here, our expert guides will provide a brief safety briefing before we embark on the walkthrough.
Once prepared, we adjust the kayaks (participants use double kayaks while guides use singles); and conduct safety training on evacuation, paddling techniques, turns, and braking, with an explanation of river operations. We then board the kayaks to commence the downstream journey.
As we descend the river, we will witness breathtaking landscapes and the stunning contrast between the ochre hues of the steppe and the turquoise glacial waters that captivated explorers like Darwin, Moreno, and Moyano. With groups of up to 8 people, personalized service is ensured.
The first leg of the kayak trip lasts approximately 1.15 hours (10 km). In the vicinity of Cerro Fortaleza (Estancia la Meseta) , we pause for lunch and hike through Cerro los Hornos to a viewpoint offering views of petrified logs and bones. After a brief rest, we return to the kayaks for the final 1-hour stretch (6 km), observing the geological formations and steppe vegetation while covering approximately 14 km by kayak to Estancia La Irene (Arroyo Turbio) , where the excursion concludes.
Upon arrival at The Estancia, we can enjoy a snack with hot beverages to replenish our energy.
Return to El Calafate in the afternoon.
