At the designated time, we will depart from our chosen hotels to embark on the iconic Route 40. Along this journey, you'll witness the stunning Argentino Lake, the Santa Cruz River, and the La Leona River. Additionally, you'll have the chance to enjoy an incredible panoramic view of the Andes Mountains, including the majestic Fitz Roy Mountain.
Our first stop will be at the Hotel La Leona, an important historical site, where we will pause for about 15 minutes. Here, you can replenish supplies and explore its quaint museum. We will then proceed south of Lake Viedma, skirting Cerro Los Hornos, until we reach Estancia Santa Teresita.
Upon arrival, we will disembark to begin our hike. We will trek through the land's depression where we will discover petrified logs scattered across the surface, some measuring up to 1.20 meters in diameter! Additionally, you'll encounter fossil remains from various dinosaurs that once roamed this area. The trek lasts for 3 hours, with time allocated for lunch within the paleontological site.
After our hike, we will return to La Leona to utilize the facilities before heading back to our selected hotels in El Calafate.
