Tour Description

Our adventure kicks off in the morning with a pickup from your hotel in the central area of Esquel. We'll set off towards the town of Gualjaina, situated just 85 km to the east.
Following an hour's journey in the van, accompanied by an expert guide, we will reach the heart of the Chubut River valley, where La Piedra Parada awaits us, standing at an impressive 210 meters high, sure to leave us in awe.
We’ll disembark to begin our exploration of the entire region. The guide will immerse us in the historical background and geological evolution of the area, which millions of years ago was the caldera of a volcano. This volcano's chimney solidified over time, creating unique geological formations; today, it is known as the Piedra Parada Protected Natural Area due to its significant cultural and natural heritage.
We will savor the extraordinary landscape of the Patagonian steppe, where we might spot caracaras, harriers, and other wildlife.
Our journey will continue towards Cañadón de la Buitrera, located a short distance from the stone, across the Chubut River. We will venture into the canyon's depths, which spans 3 km and is bordered by walls reaching 150 meters high, gradually tapering as you move inward.
We will discover an overhang, where indigenous people lived over 5000 years ago, now home to cave paintings, making it a site of both paleontological and archaeological significance.
We will have ample time to explore the canyon until sunset, relishing the tranquility of the area, admiring the magnificent hues of the volcanic rock, and its crevices that provide refuge to birds, reptiles, and rodents like the chinchillón.
After our exploration, we will retrace our steps back to the vehicle. The experience concludes with a drop-off at your hotel around 7:00 p.m.
