Explore Talampaya National Park from San Juan: Journey via Route 40 and Route 150

We set off from our chosen accommodations in the city of San Juan, embarking on an unforgettable adventure to the northern part of the province. Our path takes us along the renowned Route 40, crossing the San Juan River and linking up with Tourist Route 150 near Albardón, a region known for its rich traditions.

Continuing our expedition, we reach the boundary between San Juan and La Rioja, where we join Route 76 heading towards the majestic Talampaya National Park, a distinguished UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Once inside the park, we will embark on an excursion in authorized vehicles, traversing the dry riverbed of the Talampaya Dry River and navigating the breathtaking Talampaya Canyon, renowned for its towering reddish cliffs that soar over 150 meters high. Throughout the journey, we will pause for short walks and to interpret the landscape at four key points: Petroglyphs, Botanical Garden, Gothic Cathedral, and The Monk.

A 3-hour tour in a van or minibus offers an opportunity to fully appreciate the vastness of the scenery and the astonishing geology of the canyon, where the cliffs seem to shift with every twist and turn.
