Tour Description

Our 4x4 safari for nature enthusiasts begins at 09:00 am from the designated meeting point. We will embark on a journey heading south of the spa towards the renowned Camino de los Pulperos; This historic route spans 180 km along the Patagonian Atlantic coast. In colonial times, it was known as the “Camino Real” and gradually evolved into a key driver for the region's fishing industry.
Just 2 km into our adventure, we will make our first stop at Villa de los Pulperos, where we will delve into the rich history of the spa, home to the first settlers of Las Grutas. Our guides will explain the process of collecting the Octopus Tehuelchus, the smallest octopus in the world.
Though the Camino de los Pulperos is no longer in use today, we will witness some boats capturing mollusks through diving or using purse seines. Additionally, locals often revive the tradition during low tides, gathering shellfish such as clams, mussels, and octopus from the intertidal zone until the tide rises again.
Continuing 4 km further south, we will arrive at Playa de Piedras Coloradas, where an interpretative walk awaits us. This beach is famed for its Precambrian rock formations and striking reddish hues. We will also enjoy sandboarding on the dunes, gliding on sleds or boards over the sandy slopes—a fun and safe activity, with guides providing basic instructions and the boards, ensuring the descent is free of charge.
Our journey proceeds 10 km further south to El Sótano, a coastal area noted for the largest tidal variations in the country. Here, we will pause to observe the tidal changes and understand their causes.
Venturing further south in our 4x4 vehicle, we will explore the Cañadón de las Ostras, where you can admire 15-million-year-old marine fossils, set in a stunning natural environment surrounded by desert vegetation and lapped by warm, turquoise waters that will undoubtedly tempt us to take a refreshing dip.
We will conclude this 4x4 adventure with a spectacular toast by the sea, returning to Las Grutas after a 4-hour journey.
The services will conclude with a drop-off at the meeting point.
