Conquering Cerro Corona: An Adventure with a Reward in La Cumbrecita
Begin your journey in the picturesque locale of La Pampita (Schönau), the starting point for your ascent to the summit of Cerro Corona. Situated at an altitude of 1,420 meters, the trail leads you westward, weaving through the majestic Kristallberge hills.
After trekking the initial three kilometers, you'll encounter the remnants of the historic Estancia "Los Merlo", an old mountain settlement. Here marks the commencement of the most demanding section of the climb: a zigzag ascent on a rocky trail, offering spectacular panoramic views of the valley below.
Over the next three hours, you'll tackle an elevation gain of 500 meters, progressing to the concluding part known as the "semicircle path." This final challenge leads you to an approachable rock face, which serves as the entrance to the summit.
Reaching 2,020 meters above sea level, the peak of Cerro Corona rewards you with breathtaking 360-degree vistas. It's an ideal natural vantage point to rejuvenate and enjoy a well-earned lunch. Take your time to soak in the vastness of the mountain landscape before retracing your steps back to La Cumbrecita.
